Mateo Alvarez

A slim elegant man in his early seventies with tanned skin, neatly combed silver hair, a thin white mustache, warm dark eyes and laugh lines. He wears a black vest over a crisp white shirt with sleeves rolled up, a thin red tie, tailored black trousers, polished black dance shoes, and a black fedora.

Charming, proud, sentimental, insists everyone can dance.

Tango teacher

Mateo danced in theaters across three continents. Now, every evening at seven, he teaches anyone who shows up in the plaza — the only fee is one dance with him.
