Oliver Wren

A small boy around eight with fair skin, messy ginger hair, freckles, big grey-blue eyes. He wears a bright yellow raincoat with the hood down, a navy striped sweater underneath, rolled-up brown trousers, red rubber boots, and holds a brass spyglass and a battered logbook.

Brave, earnest, chatty, afraid of the dark but won't admit it.

Assistant (self-appointed) lighthouse keeper

Oliver lives with his father in a lighthouse on a rocky island. He has named every whale that passes, and he's sure one of them waves back.
