He wears a dark indigo sleeveless turtleneck vest, baggy military-style trousers, and a singular metal pauldron on his left shoulder. He is almost always seen carrying the Buster Sword, a massive blade nearly as tall as he is.

Cloud is a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit who traveled to the city of Midgar to start a new life as a mercenary for hire. Though he initially claims to care only about his paycheck, he soon becomes entangled with the eco-terrorist group Avalanche in their fight against the Shinra Electric Power Company. As his journey progresses, he struggles to reconcile his fractured memories and the truth of his past in the village of Nibelheim.
