Nagito was born into a life defined by a cycle of extreme good and bad luck, which resulted in the loss of his parents in a plane crash while leaving him a massive inheritance. He was diagnosed with terminal illnesses, including lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia, shortly before being chosen as the 'Ultimate Lucky Student' through a lottery for Hope's Peak Academy. These experiences shaped his twisted worldview where he believes absolute hope can only be born from the most crushing despair.
