What size should a token be?

Square images of around 256 to 512 px work well for a character that fills one grid square; bigger creatures can use larger images.

Does the token have a transparent background?

The generator returns a plain background outside the frame. Remove it before uploading if your VTT doesn't crop tokens to a circle for you.
