How to Use a Drawing Base

Download the base
Pick a pose and download the PNG. Open it in Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Krita, Photoshop or ibisPaint.

Sketch on a new layer
Lower the base's opacity, add a layer on top and draw the hair, face, clothes and accessories over it.

Adjust, then hide the base
Stretch limbs or change proportions to fit your character, then hide or delete the base layer when the line art is done.
Tips for Drawing Over a Base
Change the proportions
Lengthen legs, widen shoulders or shorten the torso so the body fits your character's age and build.
Give clothes volume
Fabric sits on top of the body — let sleeves and skirts stand away from the base line instead of tracing it.
Keep the silhouette readable
Fill the pose in black: if an arm disappears into the body, turn it slightly outward.
Mix and flip bases
Combine a head angle from one base with the body of another, or flip a base horizontally for variety.
Start from a close pose
Pick the base nearest to your idea and adjust it; small changes are easier than redrawing a limb.
